For years, we have driven from Rapid to Spearfish more times than I can count to eat at Guadalajara. We'd make an afternoon out of it by visiting the park to let the kids play, shop downtown, visit family, and ultimately eat our weight in chips and salsa.

Recently our extended family has moved from Spearfish and we've found ourselves looking for an excuse to head to Spearfish ... so we hiked Roughlock Falls Trail (that post is coming tomorrow) and worked up an appetite.

Walking into this family restaurant instantly makes you happy. The walls are bright, every table is loaded with amazing looking food, and the staff is never short of a smile.

Our server, and one other gentleman, kept indulging the kids in Spanish lessons. Amigo, si and cuatro (for the number in our party) were the words of the day. So nice and welcoming not to feel like three kiddos is too much for them. In fact, everyone acted just the opposite. It's truly a family business full of heart.

It doesn't hurt that their chips + salsa are soooo good. My husband and I love the spicy version, and the kids all devour the mild. Everyone is happy when they arrive as fast as we sit down.

The menu is extensive and we've never had a bad meal here, but my favorite is the Taco Supremos: steak (or chicken if you prefer) stuffed inside three corn tortillas with most amazing red sauce, salsa, guacamole, cheese, and lettuce. Seriously. Eat. This.

The kids love the beef soft tacos (of course) and their Sunday special is perfect for this because the Little Amigos meal is only .99. I could go on and on about their food, but probably the best way to handle this is to leave you a link so you can read the descriptions for yourself: click here.

There are two locations owned by the same family. And with all of the new Guadalajara's opening around the Black Hills, it is easy to confuse one from another.

The Spearfish location (83 Old Hwy. 14 West) and the Pierre location (314 Sioux Ave.) are the original locations and the same owners (and spicy salsa!).

When you are looking for some great food for everyone in your family - you need to visit here.

Even my youngest was high-fiving everyone as we left... good service and great food go a long way around here - and we will be back!
