Reuben
At Alpine Inn
A classic Reuben with tender grilled pastrami, melted Swiss, sauerkraut and Thousand Island on German bread, served with authentic German potato salad.
About This Dish
If you’re a Reuben fan, lunch at the Alpine Inn gives you a good reason to visit Hill City before dinner. Their traditional Reuben layers tender grilled pastrami, melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing on German bread, bringing together the rich, tangy and savory flavors you want from this classic sandwich.
The full order is filling and comes with a side of authentic German potato salad. If you want to change up the traditional combination, you can substitute red cabbage for the sauerkraut. Pair it with a German beer, and if you still have room, finish lunch with one of the Alpine Inn’s desserts.
Reubens aren’t on every Black Hills lunch menu, making this one especially worth seeking out if you’re a fan of the classic. It’s available during the Alpine Inn’s lunch hours.

We had never made it to the Alpine Inn for lunch, and now we understand why it’s just as popular during the day. The tender pastrami, melted Swiss and sauerkraut come together in just the right proportions for a rich, flavorful Reuben. We’d absolutely order it again, and yes, it’s worth the wait.
